Not too long ago I had the chance to take a weekend trip to the Gold Coast to hang out with Harlow from Harlow Darling, and my sister {and best friend} who had moved up there only two weeks before I was due to visit.
It was perfect timing, and I was so excited to have the chance to spend time with my lil’ sister and my lovely vintage gal pal. Of course, we were like: must. do. all. the. things! Having only two short, sweet days, we decided to start by meeting up at the Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha in Brisbane. Okay, you may be laughing at me ~ but I like this kind of exploring when I am traveling. I’m a total tourist at heart.
Give me an ancient church, a historic building, an antique museum or gallery, a scenic garden or a panoramic promenade ~ if it’s a place of beauty or history in a new town, you can guarantee I will want to check it out. It’s either sightseeing or shopping {which you know came later on… (*>▽<)}! Some people like to eat around town, I like drinking in the views around town… Heehee.
So we wondered around the beautiful gardens and snapped some snaps ~ I wore the Maddison Toile Swing Dress by Collectif ~ I first saw it when the new toile collection came out and instantly fell head over my pretty pink heels in love with it. Toile print is a weakness of mine, and the navy and white is such a classic combination!
There are so many sweet details to this dress ~ the button band down the back is probably my favourite however… Or maybe the bow on the collar at the front? Gah! Can’t decide! Anyway, I knew it would be a perfect pairing with the Erstwilder Forget Me Nots earrings.
I adore Forget Me Not flowers, not only do they have the cutest name ever, but the tiny, dainty, baby blue petals with a freckled kiss of sunny yellow in the centre are such charming little things. So when Erstwilder came out with these pretty earrings, it was not a difficult choice for me.
They are not too big, not too small, and you know how some earrings will swing about so that you can’t see the design properly? Not so with these beauties, they were perfectly aligned the entire time I wore them.
Of course, we didn’t spend the whole day in the gardens, we had lunch at the popular Bare Bones Society Café, and then we headed to the Frock Up Vintage fair at the Mt. Gravatt Showgrounds {incidentally, the grounds have beautiful old mint and cream, 1910’s Australiana style buildings which were lovely to see!}.
Unfortunately, the fair was totally rather overpriced, {or fortunately perhaps? My wallet was happy!} so I didn’t come home with much, but I found a three pairs of milk glass earrings that I was very pleased with. That was nice, and they didn’t take up much room in my already over stuffed suitcase! We went home after that, but there was still another glorious day ~ yay! and I’ll leave that for a later post…
